Father's Day 2011 & Jenna's first swim
There are few things, in addition to storytelling and nicknames, that are musts in our family...
First, you must be okay with the lake. My Dad and Lake Murray go to together like a fat kid and cake, so if you ever want to spend any quality time with him, a boat ride is usual on the menu. Given that I grew up on the lake, I certainly love this, as does JP, and it seems as though Miss Jenna is growing her boat legs already.
Second, you must be able to swim. The way we learned involved a toss from a dock and insistence that we can make it to the shore on our own...lol... I'm not down with this method for Miss Jenna (sorry PopPop...I understand that we all survived AND we know how to swim, but...), so we will start Water Babies at the Y when she is 6 months old and will probably keep her in swim lessons from there. However, seeing as it's summertime and she's not 6 months old yet, we're starting her early. She did her inaugural swim at the lake this past weekend.
Third, you have to be able to drive a boat. It's a must and Dad starts you early. Obviously, 4 months old is a good starting point because Jenna was driving the boat for a minute this past weekend.
And of course, it was Father's Day, so JP had the chance to introduce her to the water, which is also one of his loves. What a perfect opportunity for him for Father's Day...
As always...here is the evidence...and some other pics from Father's Day...:)
Daddy playing with Jenna...who has no fear...
Finally had a full tablespoon of rice cereal, and this is the end result...:)
Dressed up and ready to go in her lake shorts
And out like a light when we get there!
Me & my lil monkey!
My little precious!
Our solution to having no shade while she is swimming...
Here we go!
She constantly looks around, trying to take it all in!
With MiMi Mary, trying to figure out what PopPop is doing over there...
Driving the boat!
Chillin' with her PopPop
She always has one hand stroking Daddy's beard. She has done it since the day she was born.
MiMi picked up a new life jacket....
Jenna's not convinced it's for her, though.
And in the water we go!
Ok...when Daddy holds me up, this isn't too bad!
Gotta get naked when you're on the lake!
Back at the dock, swimming with Daddy without a life jacket. SO much better!
